What is Asclera®?

sclerotherapy doctors refers to injecting varicose or spider veins with a solution in order to permanently disable and remove them from the body. At The Institute of Aesthetic Surgery, we use Asclera®, a prescription medication.

This treatment is administered in our office, and the medication is injected directly into the affected veins. Asclera® damages the cells that line the blood vessels, causing platelets and cellular debris to attach to the vessel walls. Over a matter of weeks, the blood completely clots, and the vein is removed by the body and replaced with healthy tissue.

When Will I See Results?

While it may take some time for the blood vessels to be removed, results depend on skin type and vein severity. Multiple treatments may be necessary in order to fully eradicate more severe vascular conditions.

After treatment, you will be advised to wear compression stockings continuously for two to three days, and for two to three weeks during the day time after treatment. The compression needed for treated areas depends on the individual condition.

You may also be instructed to walk for 15-20 minutes after treatment, and daily for a few days in order to maintain good circulation during the clotting process.

Am I a Good Candidate for Asclera®?

Men and women with varicose or spider veins typically make good candidates for this procedure, but those with clotting diseases or certain allergies should not get Asclera®. Your health and medical history will be evaluated during your consultation, and our medical team will help you determine whether Asclera® is right for you.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Slight bruising, swelling and redness may occur at the injection site, which will subside shortly after treatment. All possible risks and complications will be discussed with you prior to treatment. Following post-treatment instructions will help prevent any adverse reactions, and heavy exercise, sunbathing, long airplane flights and hot baths should be avoided in order to achieve optimal results.
