Breast augmentation is one of the most popular surgical aesthetic procedures in the country, with women having their choice of larger, smaller, rounder or even higher breasts. With so many options available under the umbrella of augmentation, your choices have never been better.
Proportion is Up to Interpretation
With reality shows featuring cosmetic surgery, proportion is often talked about as if it’s the be-all and end-all of breast augmentation. For example, a woman with wide hips and an ample backside may be told she needs larger breasts to create balance.
In the real world, this idea doesn’t have to rule your choices. If you’re six feet tall and broad but want smaller breasts, that is your idea of proper proportion. If you’re petite but want larger breasts, your frame doesn’t automatically disqualify you from going up in cup size. The only opinions that matter are yours and that of your surgeon.
Implants Have Multiple Uses
While it’s certainly possible to achieve huge breasts with implants, they also have other uses. Smaller implants can be used to add firmness and volume without necessarily adding cup sizes.
If you have a noted difference in the size of your breasts, you may only need one implant in the smaller breast to create symmetry. Implants can also be used to restore roundness, if you’ve lost tissue to an accident or lumpectomy.
The Future Will Factor into Your Decision
Breast augmentation of any kind can make it impossible to breastfeed in the future. Pregnancy can cause the breasts to swell up, as well. If you aren’t sure about your future fertility plans, you’ll want to think it through before having an augmentation.
If you’re certain that you won’t be having any children in the future, you can be reasonably sure that your result will be permanent. If you’d like to have a child in the future, be sure to discuss this with the surgeon.
Care can be taken to preserve the nerves and tissues responsible for breastfeeding, but there is always a chance these efforts to preserve the ability to breastfeed won’t be successful.
Breast augmentation can help you get your ideal bust size. Whether that size is larger, smaller or simply firmer or more symmetrical is your decision. If you’d like a professional opinion on your specific case, contact The Institute of Aesthetic Surgery today for a confidential appointment.
