Treating Back Pain with a Breast Reduction

July 3, 2017 by Gregg Bessette

breast reduction surgery for back pain

Some women have too much of a good thing, and their breasts are large enough to cause physical problems like back pain. Disproportionately large breasts can throw a woman off-balance and, thus, affect her posture. Overly large breasts have also been linked to other conditions like chronic pain in the chest wall, neck and shoulders. They can affect a woman’s self-esteem and make it hard for her to find clothes that fit properly. While pain medication and physical therapy can provide some relief, the only permanent solution is breast reduction surgery for back pain.

What Does Breast Reduction Surgery Involve?

Breast reduction surgery for back pain is an outpatient procedure performed in the comfort of our surgical suite. During the procedure, our surgeon can remove some tissue, fat and skin an reshape the remaining tissue to give the breasts a more natural appearance. In many cases, liposuction is used to remove the fat.

What is the Recovery Like?

The patient will be given a special surgical bra to wear for a set amount of time following the procedure. It is important to follow our team’s instructions regarding healing during this time for optimal results. Take it as easy as you possibly can during your recovery. Once you have fully healed, you can enjoy your results for quite a long time. Of course, the recovery will vary from patient to patient.

Who is a Good Candidate for Breast Reduction Surgery?

The ideal candidate for breast reduction surgery for back pain will be a healthy adult with realistic expectations regarding the procedure, the recovery and the results. During a consultation at our office, we can assess your breasts and review your overall health and medical history in order to determine if a breast reduction can work for you. We want to help you with your large breasts, but we want to make sure that the procedure is safe for you.
