Breast augmentation, including the insertion of implants, is the most requested surgical cosmetic procedure in the United States. Women wanting fuller, curvier figures often choose implants to add volume and firmness to their busts. However, it’s not unusual to eventually consider breast implant revision. Options include removing them entirely, swapping them for new implants or switching implant types. If you’re unhappy with your breast implants, here are some signs you may be ready to consider a revision surgery.
Your Back, Neck or Shoulders Hurt
Women with large busts can experience pain in all of these areas due to the weight of the breasts and their effect on posture. If you had large implants placed when you were younger and are now experiencing discomfort due to their weight, it may be time to have them removed or swapped for a smaller set.
If you’re happy with the size but unhappy with the discomfort, you may also want to consider a breast lift or an ‘internal bra’ procedure to balance the weight more effectively.
You’re Starting to Sag
If you received your implants several years ago or more, it’s possible that you’re noticing a downward settling of the breasts. This is a normal part of aging, but not something you must accept or tolerate. If you’re resorting to pushup bras and are unhappy with the sagging, the surgeon will be able to put your breasts back up where they belong.
You’ve Lost Weight and Now Feel Ripples or Ridges
Saline implants are great for women with lots of natural breast tissue, but if you lose a lot of weight, you may begin to feel the ridges and ripples of the implants. In this case, check with the surgeon to see if swapping the saline implants for silicone can give you back smooth, full and firm breasts.
You Are No Longer Satisfied with the Size
Some women, afraid of going too large with their implants, may choose a size smaller than they should have. If you chose a full C cup, for example, and now feel that you’d be happier with a full D or DD cup, you may want to consider increasing the size. This is especially true if you received implants in your late teens or early twenties and have filled out elsewhere since then.
