What Questions Should I Ask during a Consultation?

February 10, 2016 by

consultation

This is an excellent question and is relevant to many procedures; largely this will determine the outcome of your surgery. The first question is relative to yourself. Do you trust your surgeon? The presumption is that you have done a thorough investigation of the surgeon; his/her credentials, experience, and of course character. There are many sources of this information; the most reliable perhaps is the opinion of others who have used this person, particularly your friends. Of considerably less value in choosing a surgeon is the marketing effort of that surgeon. Remember that virtually anyone can market who has the money, and this is not dependent on the person’s skill or character. This vetting process is essential. Even having more than one consultation will provide additional information and reassurance that you are choosing the correct surgeon.

The second most important question I think that you should ask is, have I given the plastic surgeon sufficient information about my concerns and condition and has he/her addressed these concerns? This is, of course, a communication issue. There are other questions that should be asked but these two questions build the foundation on which you will have a successful outcome.

After these two questions, there is a third question that should follow and is important to the happiness following your plastic surgery procedure. This question has proven to be the key question to a satisfactory outcome, after the first two. Are my expectations realistic based on the consultation? Inherent in this question is the fact that dealing with the body introduces many variables some of which are unpredictable. In addition, there are risks associated with any procedure, the same as with every facet of life such as driving your car. While perfection is a goal, it is unachievable. Nevertheless, your surgeon should be willing to work with you to deal with these unexpected and unpredictable issues. They should not be a barrier to your seeking to improve yourself.

Finally, I would add that achieving beauty and a youthful appearance is a process and not an event. Be willing to work with your plastic surgeon in order to achieve the best possible outcome as well as maintain the results as long as possible. At the Institute of Aesthetic Surgery, we have assembled a team of professionals who are eager to work with you to help you achieve your best possible outcome. Contact us today to schedule your consultation. We can answer any questions you may have!
