Restore Your Breasts after Pregnancy with a Breast Lift

July 6, 2015 by

Breast Lift

After pregnancy, many women find that their breasts lose their former fullness and firmness. In some cases, post-pregnancy breasts sag noticeably. If this is the case for you, there are cosmetic procedures available to correct the problem. Specifically, a breast lift can restore your chest so that you can feel confident about your appearance.

What Is A Breast Lift?

Also known as a mastopexy, a breast lift is a cosmetic procedure that reshapes and elevates breasts through the removal of excess skin. The procedure will also involve tightening the tissue surrounding the breasts to promote contour.

Breast Lift Procedure Steps

There are several steps involved in a breast lift, but the particular procedure you receive will depend on the condition of your breasts and your cosmetic goals.

Anesthesia

Before the surgery takes place, you will be given medication to enhance comfort throughout the procedure. Your choices will typically include either intravenous sedation or general anesthetic methods. The cosmetic surgeon will tell you which method is most appropriate and advantageous for you.

The Incision

There are three incision patterns: around the areola, around the areola and down vertically to the crease of the breast, and around the areola, down vertically from the crease of the breast and horizontally along the crease of the breast.

Reshaping Your Breasts

Once Dr. Sylora has made the incisions, the underlying tissue of the breast will be reshaped and lifted to improve breast firmness and contour. The areola and nipple will be repositioned to a more natural height. If it is necessary, your enlarged areolas will be reduced by skin excision. Finally, any excess breast skin will be removed, which will help compensate for elasticity loss.

Closing the Incisions

Once your breasts have been reshaped and the excess skin has been removed, the remaining skin will be tightened and the incisions will be closed. Some of the incision lines from the procedure will be concealed in the contours of the breast. Others will be visible from the breast’s surface. Although the incision lines are permanent, they will fade over time. Often, patients are interested in keeping their scars as small as possible. However, the cosmetic surgeon will make the best recommendations regarding where incisions should be made based on your unique anatomy.

Schedule Your Consultation

If you’ve gone through childbirth or significant weight loss and find that you are now dissatisfied with your breasts, a breast lift could help correct the problem. To determine whether a breast lift is right for you, contact Institute of Aesthetic Surgery today to schedule a consultation. We’ll work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
