Gynecomastia, or enlarged breast tissue in men, statistically occurs in about 40-60 percent of males in the United States. While this cosmetic issue can be caused by several factors, it can also cause embarrassment and avoidance behaviors in men who experience it. At The Institute of Aesthetic Surgery, our male breast reduction surgery corrects the natural contours of the chest to restore masculinity and confidence.

What is Male Breast Reduction Surgery?
Due to factors such as hormone imbalance, weight loss or gain, aging or certain medications, men can develop excess skin, fat and glandular tissue in their breasts. This area does not always respond to diet and exercise, but male reduction surgery may be a viable option.
Male breast reduction surgery is a common procedure and has multiple techniques based on individual needs. The simplest method is liposuction, which includes making small incisions in the breast area and inserting a liposuction cannula to extract excess fat. An incision may also be created underneath the nipple to remove glandular tissue and reposition the nipple.
This surgery is generally outpatient, and either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation will be used, depending on the extent of the procedure. Male breast reduction can also be performed in conjunction with other procedures in order to enhance the results. These options can be discussed with Dr. Sylora during your consultation.
Am I a Good Candidate for Male Breast Reduction?
Those who are approved for male breast reduction surgery are typically in good health, do not smoke, have no major health conditions that could impair surgery or healing, and have realistic expectations about what surgery can do. This surgery is also intended for men whose breasts are fully developed and maintain a healthy body weight. Doctor Sylora will help you decide whether this procedure is right for you during your consultation.
What is Recovery Like?
The treated will be bandaged after surgery to control swelling, and surgical drains may be placed in order to collect excess fluids. You will be encouraged to move around as early as possible after surgery to prevent clotting, but lifting and strenuous activities should be avoided for at least four weeks. Patients usually return to work within three or four days after surgery.
