The patient is usually able to return home shortly after the surgery – which takes approximately one to two hours. She will likely be prescribed a pain medication to combat the discomfort as she heals from the procedure or will be advised by the doctor to take over-the-counter drugs like acetaminophen. Heavy lifting is not advised for up to six weeks. Patients are usually able to return to work and their normal routine around two weeks following surgery.
Patients will have to return to the doctor to have general maintenance for breast augmentation. If silicone implants were chosen, it is necessary to undergo an MRI every three years, and implants may have to be replaced – especially if they rupture.
