What is Otoplasty?

March 27, 2017 by

Otoplasty

If you are unfamiliar with the term otoplasty, you are probably wondering what it is. Otoplasty is surgery that is designed to change the position, size and/or shape of the ears. It is used to make the ears more balanced and attractive.

There are a lot of reasons why a person may feel unsatisfied with the way their ears look. They may have been born with a defect. At first, the defect may not have been that noticeable. However, as the person got older, the defect became more and more visible. This is likely something that caused the person to feel bad about the way they look.

Another reason why a person may feel unsatisfied with the way their ears look is because they were injured. They may have been injured in a car accident or another accident that caused the ears to become damaged in some way.

Otoplasty can treat multiple things. First, it can help individuals who have protruding ears. A person may have ears that protrude at varying degrees on just one side or on both sides. Second, it can help individuals who have a condition that is called macrotia. This means that a person has overly large ears. Otoplasty can be used to make your ears smaller and shapelier. Third, otoplasty can be used for adults when they have already gone through ear surgery and feel unsatisfied with the results that they experienced.

Before a person goes through ear surgery, they are going to have a medical evaluation done at our office. This is done in order to make sure that the patient is healthy enough for the procedure. While the surgeon will definitely have questions for the patient, it is very important for the patients to have questions for the surgeon as well. It is a good idea to ask questions about the results that you will expect to see. The more you know about the surgery and how it will help you, the happier you will be after the procedure.

Most individuals who have otoplasty performed feel happy with the results. They love the way their ears look after surgery. In order for you to feel the same satisfaction, we invite you to schedule a consultation at The Institute of Aesthetic Surgery in Celebration or Altamonte Springs. We will tell you more about how otoplasty is performed. We will show you how it can fix your ears and help you gain more self-confidence. Contact us today to book an appointment to learn more!
